Patio and Flagstone Repair

Patio and Flagstone Repair

Many homes have masonry walkways and patios that are often the centrepiece of ones front yard. The porch, patio and flagstone walkways welcome people as they come for a visit. With harsh snow, ice and other factors, these structures and surfaces take an intense beating and are often one of the first parts of your home to show wear and need repair.

What To Look For And What Can Be Done About It

The mortar in between the stones of your patio or walkway is the softest and weakest part. This is often the area that will deteriorate first. Once water is able to get in between the stones, the mortar deterioration will speed up and eventually the stones themselves can crack or shift. This can be, at best, an eyesore and, at worst, a tripping hazard or safety issue.

When all of the mortar is cracked or shifted, we can chisel it out or use a diamond blade grinder to remove it. This allows us to fill in the joints with fresh new mortar that will re-secure the stones and extend their life. If stones have shifted they can often be lifted, cleaned off and relayed. If they are beyond repair and cracked, we can look for a close match and supply and install new stone.
